Cheeseburgers

Just thought I would do a little Men’s Olympic Hockey recap.

The hockey was spectacular . It was fast, hard hitting, with skills which were off the charts.

The Coaching was outstanding, which I thought was a little under appreciated by the media. To get the world’s best to listen and execute is a challenging task. To create a team culture in a relatively short period of time was a monumental task. This culture was not built in meetings. It was built in daily moments with checks and balances to make sure everyone understood the process. Immediate feedback had to be given to players with no short cuts taken. The result was the best hockey I have ever seen. Good on the players for understanding the moment.

The final game was absolutely riveting. Team Canada owned the last two periods and played their best game of the tournament. They had their chances but they missed open nets, hit posts and the Team USA goalie Connor Hellebuyck had the game of his life. In  3 v 3 overtime USA got the bounce they needed and scored to win the Gold medal.  To have a Gold medal game decided 3 v 3 is like having the Masters decided with a putt off. The IOC likes the 3 v 3  so they can have the Closing ceremonies start on time. All this tells me is that as much as the IOC says the Games are about the athletes they are not , it is about the IOC.

What happened after the winning goal is something to behold. To have the losing team stay on the ice for almost 40 minutes and watch the other team get medals is classless by the IOC. The camera is on the losing team looking for poor reactions. The loss is devastating for these athletes. The USA  celebrations are so over the top and patriotic  it is sickening. However, I do admire them for it. It is something that Canadians are finally beginning to catch onto that is alright to be patriotic in sport. I guess we can thank Donald for that.

In the dressing room after the game,  the Director of the FBI is chugging beer like a frat house pledge and dancing like a fool. I wonder what J Edgar Hoover would have thought ? How USA hockey let that guy into the dressing room is a real head scratcher. Then as per usual the team gets a call from The Donald inviting them to the White House and to attend the State of the Union Address. Getting invited to the White House for Americans is a really big deal and I get that. However, when it involves Donald I think you have to think twice. IMO he used those players to divert attention away from other important matters like the Epstein files for example. Usually I do not mix politics and sports but when it comes to Donald he used sports to further his political agenda. BTW he made on off the cuff remark saying that he would also have to invite the Women’s team or he would be impeached. The Women won a Gold medal days before the men so that invitation should have been extended first. Hat’s off to the Women’s team for not going.

Meanwhile when the Men’s team does show up he serves the Gold Medal winning team, double cheeseburgers from Mickey D’s! BTW they still had the wrappers on! I guess the White House Kitchen must have been busy. Once again Donald disrespected the people of his culinary staff by serving Mickey D’s. At least he didn’t order Happy Meals!

If you remember years ago the McDonald’s mascot was Ronald McDonald and he was a clown.

I think I will stop right here because you can see where I am going with this!

Hat’s off to Team USA Women and Team USA Men for there wins.

See you in four years!

Until next time.
