So in my part of the world the groundhog saw his shadow which means we have six more weeks of Winter. It has been a long Winter with bitter cold and record snow fall. The fact that some rodent tells me that we have 42 more days does not make it any easier.
Been going to the gym on a regular basis which certainly helps with people of my age group. I affectionately call it Senior Daycare! Thinking about it, I guess I am pretty fortunate to be able to do it.
Have taken a little different approach this year. Been doing a blend of moderate cardio, light weights, and rotational work. So far I have noticed a little weight loss but an improvement in my flexibility. Been also doing some work to create ground force which will give me a little more speed in my golf swing……I hope.
On the mental side I have redone a couple of on line courses and reread a few books. I recaptured that it starts with our self image. How we see our self as a person and as an athlete. After that is the internal conversations we have with our self. An example of this for me is at the gym. The spin and fitness classes play the music so loud that I can hardly hear my music coming from my earbuds. The conversation within myself was distracting to my working out. The outside noise( literally) was affecting my ability to focus on what needed to be done. My mindset changed from growth to fixed. I was fixed on how loud and how bad the music was . It was affecting my vision of what I could be on the golf course this Summer. So what was my process now to deal with this noise? Well, I approached GM an explained myself to him and how the noise was disrespectful to me and the other 150 or so people working out. As it turns out the volume has come down enough that I can turn down the volume a notch or two on my earbuds. Small win!
What this taught me is I had forgotten how to frame situations off the golf course .
How we engage our minds, how interesting we make our sessions and how authentic our relationships are with Daycare members .Get that right and the noise loses its volume.
The long cold snowy Winter reminded me of that.
Until next time.
