Well, just when you think you have seen it all something happens that keeps that door open.
Yesterday at my Club some degenerate golfer kept dropping his cigar ashes on the green for four consecutive holes. Putting surfaces are very hard to maintain at the best of times, but in my part of the world right now we are in a drought situation. We have had two weeks of 95 to 105 temperatures . Golf courses are dry but the greens staff has been doing a great job keeping all the surfaces playable. If this was not enough to get me fired up, this degenerate on his fourth try decides to extinguish his cigar butt on the putting surface scorching the green! This green was already stressed by the heat and this idiot does this!
Golf is undergoing a major transition. CV-19 has introduced new players to the game. It has also introduced a generation of entitled players who think traps should not be raked, ball marks not repaired, divots not filled. They think it is not there responsibility. As my friend says ” they think that is why we have staff “. I have to admit he is right……again! Now cigar guy is a candidate for my Hall of Fame along with sunflower seed guy. They could be first ballot candidates based on ignorance and entitlement.
There is no doubt I am getting old because I feel my filter is going. At this time I would like to offer my apologies to my other three playing partners for rants on the four greens. However, it did make me feel better!
To top it off , the foursome that were doing this sh*t were guests from another course who we extend playing privileges to. I did send the attached photo to our appropriate Club personnel so the issue is now their hands now.
Perhaps it is time for our BOD to reevaluate our relationship with this Club.
Character trumps everything, no butts about it!
