Clean Up

It has been an interesting start to February with Donald giving us Canadians a thirty day reprieve on his tariff threats. Our politicians here in Canada have started to get there act together, but we are far from getting ourselves out of the woods. Still, I am pissed off that the other parties are criticising instead of offering constructive suggestions.Classic transference of blame! To me that just reeks of doing what’s best for the party instead of whats best for the country. One thing I did learn over the last fourteen days is the USA is our neighbour, not our friend as we have been lead to believe for the last hundred years or so. They are our business partner and everything we do with them is a transaction and should be treated as such.

Enough politics. Been on a steak of sorts. Since November 1st have been to the gym 98 times. My Wife calls it Senior Daycare, but I call it doing what you need to do to get through Winter. Have been doing a variety of cardio, strength , and movement exercises so I can be ready for the upcoming golf season. As I mentioned previously I am thinking about playing some competitive golf again. Not sure how much but just want to be physically ready. Mentally, I journal my workouts which I find interesting. It helps to spot some boring stuff so I can make changes to my workout and keep things fresh, but it also gives me a sense of accomplishment. That’s how I know I have gone to gym 98 times. BTW 82 days until golf season.

Still on the topic of the gym, can anyone explain to me why people have to have a phone or video conversation while on the treadmill? I do not want to hear your conversation, which I can listen to even though I have my earbuds in. I am also sure that the other people in the immediate vicinity really don’t care either. Perhaps, I am getting old and not adjusting to the world of small screens and constant conversation. I do not care about what you and your Boyfriend are disagreeing about.

The Superbowl is two days away and the KC Chiefs are going for a three-peat. The Eagles of Philadelphia have a good ball club but they have been there and know to manage the chaos of Super Bowl week and the chaos of the game. Talent does not dictate winning, but you do need it. It also needs players who can get the job done under pressure, and have the ability to come back when things do not go your way. The Chiefs have that in their DNA and having the best QB and Coaches in the league certainly does not hurt either. I am calling the Chiefs, because they trust the trustables!

The Ottawa Senators have some key players injured right now and the team has lost two in row. In February of any of  the last five seasons it would be no big deal. However, this year their appears to be a change. They are seven games above 500 and may have a chance to make the playoffs. However, an important thing for the media and fans to keep in mind is when these injured players return their is a psychological side of injury. Players always try to come back sooner than expected because they are competitive and want to help the team win. The fans and media in Ottawa were growing impatience with goaltender Linus Ulmark. He went down December 22 and returned February 5th. Athletes need to be 100% physically and mentally so they can be ready to play. Goal-tending is such a physically demanding position. Goalies need to trust the rehabilitation and recovery process .After every action athletes do not need to be checking on the injury. It is not a healthy mindset. We also need to keep in mind that they will not return to their previous level of play immediately. Fans and especially the media need to give them a little grace period.  They will get there , but do not remind them of the past. It is gone.

One final thought the PGA Tour met with The White House this week to help solve the riff between The Tour and LIV Golf. If Commissioner Monahan had done his job in the first place this mess would not have happened, but that is another story. The situation reminds me of the Winston The Wolfe character in Pulp Fiction. Wolfe is a fixer. His job is to fix up messy situations, he has the ability to get people to do stuff he says and is known for being curt and barking orders.

Sound like anyone we know!

Until next time.
