The Donald

I do not write political commentaries very often but I have got some stuff that I just have to go off on.

First of all I am Canadian. My Father fought in WW2 at 18 years to preserve the rights and freedoms we have today. He never spoke much about the war probably because he saw some stuff that no 18 year old should see. Most of our WW2 veterans have passed. They would be so disappointed in our political leaders. For the last ten years our politicians have run our country into the ground. They have piled up debt while taxing us at a level we have never experienced before, allowed truckers to hold downtown Ottawa hostage for a month and embarrassed us on the world stage. Our political parties are constantly fighting their own battles rather than fighting the battles of the people who elected them. They are posers, they want to be one thing and end up doing another. Our leader has become a punch line of a political joke.

Yesterday, Donald became the elected leader of the USA. He is now going to hit all Canadian exports with a 25% tariff on February 1st. I guess he has failed to notice that Canadians volunteered to fight the California fires and that we supplied water bombers in spite of his smug comments about Canada being the 51st State. Arrogant jerk.

We have a lame duck PM who resigned because his own party did not want him as leader. Yet he still making decisions on how to respond to Donald. Why is he allowed to do this? Why has Parliament not been reconvened ? I am not an expert on Constitutional Law but wouldn’t common sense dictate that Parliament be reconvened so we can take meaningful and lawful action. Sorry common sense and politicians are a contradiction in terms! It is so embarrassing because Donald knows this.

Donald is a bully. He threatens and uses force to get what he wants. More often than not people and politicians back off and he gets his way. Quite frankly I am sick of it. My Father told me never to start a fight, but if you get in one make sure you finish it and finish it hard. If you don’t, they will never leave you alone. If the tariffs hit us and I expect they will ,it maybe a good thing. It will expose us, show where we are weak and how to get stronger, and show us where the opportunities are. Opportunities to grow and find other trading partners. Much like when CV-19 occurred businesses  found undiscovered product lines and markets.

We export our oil to the USA at a discounted price, maybe its time we do not. Oil does not spoil. BTW it is essential in the manufacturing of many products so it would dent the USA manufacturing sector. USA needs our electricity to run factories and heat homes. Maybe we charge more, slow down the supply or cut them off altogether. Most of Los Angles will need to be rebuilt. Our lumber may come in handy in the rebuilding as well as our ore in the manufacturing of steel. The Province of Ontario is the largest single purchaser of alcohol in the world. Premier Ford is threatening to pull all American products off the shelf in the  provincially owned liquor stores. California would be hurt again if they had no where to sell wine. Personally, I would be hurt because I would miss my Bourbon. However, I can take one for the team and switch to Irish whiskey.

Donald is saying 25% right now, but don’t trust this guy. I have seen his golf swing and he says he is a 2.0 index. Ya right. The caddies at Winged Foot Golf Club have a name for him ” Pele”. For those of you that do not know Pele he was an amazing soccer player and soccer players have great feet! I also think he should win The Heisman Trophy for most yards gained is a single season.

Time to stand up to this guy. Fight dirty if needed.  We will take some shots and maybe have to take a knee, but like WW1 and WW2 we will get back up fight. To our politicians of the last 10 years stop the in fighting, this is serious stuff happening here. Get your sh*t together!

We tell our hockey teams” play for the Maple Leaf on the front, not the name on the back”. In your case fight for the country not your damm party.

Until next time!
