The last time I saw Springsteen was 1977, paid five dollars for my ticket and Born To Run was just released. Saw The Boss last week. However, this time I paid a little more than five dollars and I had my kids with me. I really did not know what would transpire that evening. How I would react, how they would react seeing their Dad rock.
I bought the tickets a couple of years ago and honestly believed they still used physical tickets. My Daughter informed me that the tickets were on her phone! Forty Seven years ago the phone was used to call a cab to get you home. Speaking of which I did have a couple more cocktails than usual with my kids and Son In Law only because it was a special occasion. Yeah right!
Had an opportunity to watch the concert from a corporate box but again my kids and in particular my Son lead me astray. He said no way we are watching this from our seats. On the way to the seats I saw people in walkers in the hallway. Only at a Springsteen or Stones concert would you see that! Best rockers in the world are in their 70’s.
Finally, we get to our seats. Beautiful sight lines, great guess on my part. It was actually pretty quiet believe it or not. At 7:35 the house lights dimmed. The audience exploded and The E Street Band took the stage. I came out my seat yelled Stevie, to salute guitar player and musical genius Stevie Van Zant ,which promptly shocked the hell out of my kids. It was like in the movie Back To The Future. I went back in time. I was a twenty-two years old and rocking out. It was a side of their Dad they never saw. Well, for three hours they sure as as hell saw it. I sang, danced with my Daughter and had another drink with my Son. I gave them worthless pieces of information about the band that I can only give. The highlight of the evening was they bought me a Springsteen T- shirt. I was my first concert shirt. Imagine that!
The best part of the night was the memories that were created. The laughs, the banter between Brother and Sister , and the fact that a seventy-five year old rocker made it all happen.
It was Glory Days !
Until next time.
